Frequently asked questions

SC-730 was cancelled after its beta, so these answers are mostly about what happened and what to take instead.

What is the SC-730 exam? #

SC-730 was Microsoft’s planned Cybersecurity Business Professional exam — a fundamentals-level certification aimed at business and non-technical roles who need to understand Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity without being engineers. It ran as a beta from April 2026, but Microsoft has since decided not to release it, so it never reached general availability.

Is SC-730 worth taking? #

You can’t take it — Microsoft cancelled the certification after reviewing beta feedback. If you’re in a security-adjacent business role such as sales, procurement, compliance or leadership, SC-900 is the fundamentals credential to take instead. If you’re going hands-on into Defender, Sentinel or Purview, SC-200 or SC-401 is the bigger career signal.

When does SC-730 GA? #

It doesn’t. Microsoft’s official study guide now states that, based on learner feedback from the beta, it decided not to move forward with releasing this certification. There’s no GA date and there won’t be one.

How much does the SC-730 exam cost? #

There’s no price any more — the exam was withdrawn after its beta and is no longer bookable through Pearson VUE. If you sat it during the beta, check the official study guide for Microsoft’s latest word on what happens next.

What's the difference between SC-730 and SC-900? #

The practical difference now is that SC-900 exists and SC-730 doesn’t. SC-900 is the long-standing fundamentals exam — concepts, services, capabilities across Microsoft Security, Compliance and Identity. SC-730 was going to be the same stack framed for non-engineers, but it was cancelled after the beta. If you want a fundamentals-level security credential today, SC-900 is the answer.
