About the PMI-PMOCP Exam

Practise building, mandating and running a PMO that proves its value: organizational project management maturity, PMO strategy and governance, service design, delivery and enhancement.

Independent original PMI-PMOCP concept and application practice aligned to PMI’s published six-domain Examination Content Outline, read directly from PMI’s own PDF in September 2026. Four-option questions include explanations, wrong-answer reasoning and public-source references.

Who Should Take This Exam?

The PMI-PMOCP is designed for PMO leaders and managers, portfolio and programme office staff, and consultants who stand up or reshape PMOs. It validates applied judgement across the full PMO lifecycle PMI’s outline covers β€” mandate, strategy, design, service delivery, performance and improvement β€” rather than general project management practice.

Prerequisites: PMI requires both education and experience, and the PMO-specific education is not optional. You must complete 10 hours of PMO-specific education before you may apply. You must also hold a secondary degree plus three years of project experience gained within the past eight years, or an active PMP in good standing. PMI allows up to three attempts within a one-year eligibility period. Check PMI’s current eligibility rules before applying; this practice bank does not provide the required education and does not count toward it.

Typical study time: 8-12 weeks of intensive study

Exam Domains & Weights

πŸ’‘ Study tip: PMO Strategic Elements, PMO Design and Structuring and PMO Enhancement and Effectiveness tie as the heaviest domains (18% each) β€” together they are more than half the exam, so ground yourself there first: linking the PMO’s strategy to organizational objectives, choosing structures and service portfolios that fit its mandate, and the measurement, maturity and continuous-improvement work that proves a PMO earns its place. Organizational Development and Alignment (16%) rewards scenario practice in organizational project management maturity, governance and stakeholder alignment. PMO Operation and Performance and People are the smallest domains (15% each), and neither is safe to skip β€” one tests the day-to-day running and performance of PMO services, the other the roles, capability and interpersonal work that make those services stick.
