About the NVIDIA NCA-GENM Exam
Master the NVIDIA-Certified Associate: Generative AI Multimodal (NCA-GENM) exam: keep multimodal training stable, fuse text, image, audio and time-series data early, late or with cross-attention, build U-Nets and CLIP-conditioned diffusion, run honest experiments with FID, CLIPScore and WER, ship on Riva, NeMo, Triton and ACE, and keep it all trustworthy.
The complete 250-question practice exam for the NVIDIA-Certified Associate: Generative AI Multimodal (NCA-GENM) exam. This is NVIDIA’s associate-level credential for people who build systems that work across more than one kind of data β text with images, speech with transcripts, video with time-series telemetry. It is the sibling of NCA-GENL, and the difference is the whole point: where NCA-GENL asks how a language model behaves, NCA-GENM asks what happens when a second modality arrives and the two have to be aligned, fused and evaluated together.
The guide covers core machine learning and AI knowledge including multimodal training stability and modality imbalance, contrastive and InfoNCE losses, reconstruction and diffusion objectives, CTC loss, batch and layer normalization, nonsequential neural networks and residual connections, the Keras functional API, cross-validation and learning curves, multimodal transfer-learning concepts, emerging architectures from Vision Transformers to BLIP-2, Flamingo and LLaVA, and energy-efficient design; data analysis including exploratory analysis of a joint embedding space with UMAP, OCR and PDF extraction, attention maps and cross-attention in multimodal settings, Grad-CAM saliency, honest chart selection, and correlation, confounding and selection bias; experimentation including multimodal experiment design and ablations, A/B testing, image, audio, text and time-series preprocessing, spectrograms and mel filterbanks, SpecAugment and mixup augmentation, Riva ASR and TTS pipelines, denoising diffusion workflows, explainability with LIME and SHAP, data quality, drift and the missing-modality problem, and evaluation with FID, BLEU, ROUGE, CIDEr, BERTScore, CLIPScore and word error rate; multimodal data including early, late and intermediate fusion, modality versus agent orchestration, multimodal retrieval-augmented generation over images, PDFs and audio, CLIP embeddings in a vector store, curation and autoencoder anomaly detection, and serving and scaling with Triton, NIM, DeepStream, Helm and Kubernetes; performance optimization including mixed-precision training and loss scaling, INT8 quantization and quantization-aware training, pruning, knowledge distillation, gradient checkpointing, hyperparameter tuning with grid, random and Bayesian search, and transfer-learning mechanics with frozen encoders, discriminative learning rates, catastrophic forgetting and LoRA; software development including U-Nets and the forward and reverse diffusion process, DDIM sampling, latent diffusion, CLIP-conditioned text-to-image generation, classifier-free guidance and negative prompts, and NVIDIA SDK integration across Riva, NeMo, NeMo Guardrails, Triton, TensorRT, NIM, ACE and AI Blueprints; and trustworthy AI including the ethical principles, data privacy and consent for likeness and voice, guardrails, retrieval grounding, content credentials and provenance for synthetic media, model cards and dataset datasheets, and disaggregated evaluation to minimize bias. Original practice questions.
Who Should Take This Exam?
The NCA-GENM certification is designed for machine learning engineers, applied AI developers, data scientists, speech and vision practitioners, and solution architects who are building generative systems that take in β or emit β more than one modality. NVIDIA describes the role as an associate developer who contributes to the development, programming and quality assurance of generative AI multimodal models: curating and annotating audio, video and image datasets, performing prompt engineering, selecting models, and running experiments such as A/B tests.
You do not need to be a researcher, and you are not asked to derive attention mathematics or write CUDA. The exam tests build-and-evaluate judgement β where to fuse two modalities, which encoder to freeze, whether a failure is data quality or evaluation, what a rising guidance scale actually costs you β not API trivia.
Prerequisites: No hard prerequisite. NVIDIA states candidates should have a basic understanding of generative AI, and recommends knowledge of Python and an AI framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow together with a solid understanding of neural networks and deep learning models.
Typical study time: 4-8 weeks of focused study

Exam Domains & Weights
The NVIDIA-NCA-GENM exam covers 7 domains. Focus your study time based on the weights below β higher-weighted domains have more exam questions.
| Domain | Weight | Practice Qs |
|---|---|---|
| Experimentation | 25% | 58 |
| Core Machine Learning and AI Knowledge | 20% | 46 |
| Multimodal Data | 15% | 35 |
| Software Development | 15% | 35 |
| Data Analysis | 10% | 26 |
| Performance Optimization | 10% | 26 |
| Trustworthy AI | 5% | 24 |
| Total | 100% | 250 |
π‘ Study tip: Experimentation carries the most weight (25%) β start there, because almost every multimodal failure you will be asked about is diagnosed through an experiment: an ablation that shows one modality is being ignored, a metric that flatters a model, a split that leaked the same source media twice. Trustworthy AI has the least (5%), but this bank still gives it 24 questions, because it is the fastest domain to make safe and the one candidates most often leave until the night before.

NVIDIA Certification Path
Start with the NVIDIA-Certified Associate: AI Infrastructure and Operations (NCA-AIIO) - essential AI knowledge, GPU and datacenter infrastructure, and the day-2 operations that keep an AI cluster healthy. NCA-GENM is the third associate-level specialisation alongside NCA-ADS and NCA-GENL: where NCA-ADS takes your data science work onto the GPU and NCA-GENL takes you into language models, NCA-GENM is the one for systems that combine modalities β vision with language, speech with text, sensor streams with everything else.

Study Tips
- Learn the fusion taxonomy cold β early, late and intermediate fusion, and which constraint picks each one. Missing modalities and independent retraining favour late; fine-grained interaction favours early or cross-attention. There is no universally best strategy, and questions are written to punish anyone who thinks there is
- Know what each metric actually measures β FID compares feature distributions and lower is better, CLIPScore is reference-free, CIDEr is built for captioning, and WER can exceed 100%. Most questions turn on when a metric misleads, not its definition
- Use our practice exam β try the 20 free questions first to gauge your readiness
- Review explanations β don’t just check if you got it right; read why each answer is correct
- Simulate exam conditions β use the timed exam mode to practice under pressure
- Check the official page β official exam details always have the latest objectives
