About this study guide
The Linux Foundation Certified IT Associate (LFCA) certification, offered by The Linux Foundation®, is for people starting an IT career. It checks foundational knowledge across Linux, system administration, cloud computing, security, DevOps and IT project management.
This is an independent Guided study resource. The questions and explanations are original, not official assessment items or a full exam simulation. The issuer publishes broad competencies rather than a detailed objective list; our technical examples interpret those competencies for study and do not claim complete exam coverage.

Domains and study allocation
These are the issuer’s current domain weights. The question counts describe this independent 250-question practice bank, not the real exam’s item distribution.
| Official domain | Official weight | Practice questions |
|---|---|---|
| Linux Fundamentals | 16% | 40 |
| System Administration Fundamentals | 30% | 75 |
| Cloud Computing Fundamentals | 18% | 45 |
| Security Fundamentals | 14% | 35 |
| DevOps Fundamentals | 12% | 30 |
| IT Project Management Fundamentals | 10% | 25 |
| Total | 100% | 250 |
The bank is written specifically for these broad IT fundamentals, not reused from Kubernetes, cloud-provider or project-management question banks. Conceptual overlap is expected: our pre-authoring vocabulary audit measured 29.6% weighted coverage against the existing KCSA bank and 27.2% against AZ-900. These are vocabulary measurements, not percentages of equivalent questions or promises about exam coverage.
Linux Fundamentals
The official competencies are Linux Operating System and Command Line. Learn the difference between the kernel, a distribution and a shell. Practise paths, quoting, redirection, pipes, file operations and finding command help. Read commands carefully: a shell expansion happens before the command receives its arguments.
System Administration Fundamentals
The official competencies are System Administration, Best Practices, Networking, Troubleshooting and Disaster Recovery. Work through routine accounts, packages, services and logs. Diagnose faults from evidence rather than changing several settings at once. Distinguish tolerated data-loss time from tolerated recovery time, and verify that a backup can actually be restored.
Cloud Computing Fundamentals
The official competencies are Cloud Computing, Performance/Availability, Budgeting, Best Practices and Networking. Compare service and deployment models, elasticity, redundancy and responsibility boundaries. Understand which network paths expose a workload and which costs continue when a resource is idle. A budget notification is not automatically a spending cap.
Security Fundamentals
The official competencies are Security, Sensitive Data and Compliance. Separate authentication from authorization, apply least privilege and understand basic Linux permissions. Compare encryption, hashing and access controls by the problem they solve. A control supports a compliance requirement; installing it alone does not prove compliance.
DevOps Fundamentals
The official competencies are DevOps Basics, Git Concepts and Containers. Follow changes from the working tree to a commit and then a remote repository. Distinguish continuous integration, delivery and deployment. Understand images, running containers, persistent data and port publication without assuming that a container has its own guest kernel.
IT Project Management Fundamentals
The official competencies are Project Management, Software Application Architecture, Functional Analysis and Open Source Software and Licensing. Turn stakeholder needs into clear requirements and acceptance criteria. Recognize simple architectural boundaries and project dependencies. Read the actual licence: a publicly visible repository is not, by itself, permission to reuse its code.
A practical study approach
Start with a disposable Linux environment and non-destructive exercises. Predict a command’s effect, run it on test files and compare the result. Keep a short record of mistaken assumptions rather than memorizing option letters.
Give system administration the most study time because it carries the largest official weight. For each recovery example, write down what must be restored, which dependencies come first and how success will be checked. For cloud and security examples, identify who is responsible and what evidence supports the decision.
Use the issuer’s LFCA free resources and recommended LFS200 course alongside hands-on study. Buying this practice bank does not include that course or the official exam.
Independent practice
Guided study practice for LFCA includes 250 original selected-response questions across the six domains. Twenty questions are free without an account; full access is US$9 for one year. Explanations discuss the mechanism and each distractor so that a wrong answer becomes useful study, not just a score.
This practice does not guarantee a pass or reproduce the issuer’s exam environment.
