Question - Where to start?

Hello brother, I want to have a broader level discussion with you about my career goals and expectations. You know, I am not an IT person. But the current boom of AI nothing but pulls me towards learning the skills essential for me to compete with today’s gen Z, if not for my own upskilling. I am open to any brotherly advice from you on where exactly to start with, as it’s already late, but better late than never. Between, I love Copilot, I am using only the basic chat version. Your videos on copilot updates are the ones which I can relate with, if not use it directly. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks Muruganarayanan G

Hello brother, thank you for writing so openly. I’m glad the Copilot videos have been useful.

Please don’t feel you’ve missed your chance. You can start learning this without an IT background. I’d begin with a small task from the field you already know. Coding and exams can wait until you have a clearer idea of where you want to go.

The Copilot chat you already use is enough for those first steps. For the next two weeks, try 15–20 minutes a day. Ask it to explain something unfamiliar, or help rewrite a sample email. Tell it who the answer is for and what you need. Then read the result, check it, and ask it to improve anything unclear.

You could start with my free AI at work foundations course. It has five short lessons for people in non-technical roles, covering practical uses and what to be careful with.

Use public or made-up information while practising. Keep confidential work and customer details out, and check important facts against the original sources.

Before spending money on a course or exam, tell me a little about the work you do now and whether you’re hoping to grow in that field or change direction. No employer name or private details needed. That would help me give you advice that actually fits.
